Boswellia Serrata

Boswellia Serrata is a plant belonging to the Burseraceae family. It is an incense plant widespread above all in India. For centuries, Boswellia Serrata and its frankincense have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. Only since the '90s has the plant become the object of study also of Western medicine which has recognized its therapeutic properties. A series of active ingredients can be extracted from the resin of the plant: the most studied are the boswellic acids, in particular the acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA).
